Laura Vrcek has an MFA in Creative Writing from Chatham University and works as a ghostwriter for Silicon Valley tech executives and brand journalist for Bay Area brands. Her poetry and nonfiction work have appeared in Apple Valley Review, Brevity’s Nonfiction Blog, Entropy Magazine, The Red Clay Review, and on Perspectives, a storytelling segment on KQED, NPR’s San Francisco affiliate. Her professional writing has appeared in a range of B2C and B2B blogs, Creative Digest, PRDaily, xoJane, HOWDesign, The Orange Dot, Parent.co, Huffington Post, and more.

She lives in Northern California and is writing a memoir about illness in the family, particularly the mental illnesses of her mother and brother and her belated father’s struggle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Upon sharing that she escaped her nuclear family’s illnesses somewhat unscathed, someone once told her: “It doesn’t matter. The family is a unit, and when one person suffers, so do the others.”
